Unexpected Expectations

Unexpected Expectations is a perfect-bound photobook made during winter in the Northeast. What started off as a photography project became a way for me to search for warmth, color, and familiarity in my surroundings.

Warmth came through sunlight, golden hour skies, and the small moments that made winter feel less intense. Color became part of the process as well. I retouched each image to bring out the colors I was already responding to in real life. Familiarity came through friends and family, solo trips, and the effort of making new memories for myself. Images shift in scale, overlap, and change in pace from spread to spread.

As the title suggests, the project became a way of finding beauty where I wasn’t necessarily expecting it.
