Mapping Information: Three Trips

Information Design
Spring 2021

How would you map your trip to work? Your trip back home to another state? Your trip abroad? Three Trips is an information design project that does all three: my trip from my apartment in Providence, to the RISD Design Center, my trip back home to New Orleans, and my trip abroad to Paris, France.

Process: Mapping Time

My first iteration was purely time based. Each block for the first trip represents 15 minutes and is color coded by whether I am in the process of leaving / arriving, driving, and parking.

In the second and third trips, each block represents one hour, and again, is coded by whether I am leaving, driving, or flying. What I hoped to illustrate, is that the trips are symmetrical: life is a series of openings and closings.
